How private clinics can maintain search visibility in 2025
Google has been spring-cleaning again. If you’re a private clinic relying on search visibility to attract new patients, it’s worth paying attention.
In its 2024 core update, Google made significant changes to how it assesses content, authority, and page experience – with a clear message: only the best, most helpful content wins.
The June 2025 Google update is the first since launching its ‘AI Mode’ and we are keeping a close eye on how this rollout may impact search results for private clinics. So, how can you ensure that your website maintains its visibility? Read on…
Google and healthcare content – setting a higher bar
Healthcare has always been under the microscope in search. Google’s Your Money or Your Life (YMYL) principles mean medical content is assessed for the following (abbreviated E-E-A-T):
- Experience – first-hand experience with the topic is demonstrated
- Expertise – knowledge and qualifications are obvious
- Authoritativeness – the website’s reputation
- Trustworthiness – website shows transparency, accuracy, and uses credible sources
In 2025, Google expects healthcare websites to deliver accurate, evidence-based, and well-cited information created or reviewed by professionals. It’s no longer enough to have a blog titled ‘5 Easy Ways to Stay Healthy.’ Your content needs to reflect your clinic’s clinical expertise while remaining accessible to patients.
How can clinics stay visible?
Here’s what your clinic can do to maintain and improve your rankings:
1. Create authoritative, patient-centric content
Write health content that addresses real patient concerns. For example, for a consultant orthopaedic knee & hip surgeon, ‘What to expect during your first total knee replacement consultation’.
By including credentials and membership of professional bodies (MRCP, FRCS, MSc), you demonstrate medical credibility, aligning with Google’s EEAT criteria.
By including patient stories and video content, this sings to Google and boosts engagement. Recently, we shared that Ophthalmic & Oculoplastic surgeon, Dr Nick Koutroumanos, appeared as an expert on ITV This Morning’s – ‘Drop a Decade’.
2. Update and refresh existing content
Check your top pages and blogs. Are they current? Do they include recent research, guidelines, or service updates? Google prefers fresh, accurate information, especially in healthcare.
For example, our client Wessex Private GP recently launched its Sleep Clinic, offering treatment for insomnia and its collaboration with sleep expert, Dr Jonathan Tham.
Sharing news about attending prestigious medical conferences not only demonstrates credibility, but demonstrates a high standard of patient care. A Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon client of ours who specialises in shoulder and elbow conditions recently attended the prestigious Revision Shoulder Arthroplasty Conference in Rome.
3. Invest in your website experience
Google still cares about site speed, mobile-friendliness, and ease of navigation. A clunky website could damage your rankings and push potential patients elsewhere. With an aging population, and older people now turning to technology for improving their health and wellness, websites must display information clearly and be easy to navigate.
Providing useful and accessible patient information, for example links to support groups and downloadable information sheets, are also a big win!
